SO WHEN I THINK ABOUT LEAVING THE HOUSE I PANIC

Say what you want about Stalin/Hitler, they had some serious style. None of this raggedy hipster/hip-hop show daddy crap would have been allowed in the sexy Soviet Union or the Nazi part-ay.
YES YES they were undeniably evil.
YES YES they were shit people.

etc.

but regardless of this, their societies still had culture. And in a not-exactly liberal society, the formation of culture is fascinating. You probably should have studied a lot of the fundamental shit in school, but if you haven't, Google Stalin's Cult of Personality and Hitler's draw towards English legend as a foundation of the Nazi identity.

I ain't your history teacher.

OK. Vice have posted a couple of interesting posts recently which have made me want to look more into the art/fashion/music/cinema/literature produced under/inspired by extreme censorship.

CLICK HERE for a short piece about 'fasion's forgotten fascists'.

And watch this guide to Russian Parallel Cinema:

Also. Read The Master and The Margherita. Thanks.

  1. 'Margarita' even ;) That Bulgakov short little reference made my happy dimples twitch a little bit. Creative writing seminar blast from the past perhaps?

  2. oops. I write these with great speed. I must have been thinking about pizza, maybe. Or I could have been referring to a whole new story about a man and his pizza. It could be a spicy margherita.

I want a margherita pizza now.
    with a margarita, please.
    :)
